Gentleman’s teapot

Another teapot named after a person. While the literal translation means something like ‘Gentleman of Virtue’, it is actually just the first name of a man named 张君德 Zhang Junde. He was a potter from the early Qing Dynasty who based his design on the pear-shaped teapot. The most distinctive feature is the abrupt curve of the flat lid. The Junde teapot shape can be seen in conjunction with the Siting teapot (another pear-shaped teapot named after the first name of a Qing Dynasty potter: 陆思亭 Lu Siting). Both styles are popular with small teapots, especially made from Zhuni clay.
